We all want to experience the joy of Christian living, making music with our hearts, being thankful, enjoying loving relationships and praising God. If you have ever worshipped in a vibrant African church you have probably experienced that exuberance.

Ephesians 5:15-21 tells us to be “filled” by the Spirit…controlled by Him…and we will experience the best of what God can give us. It does not give us practical steps on how to be filled by Him. However, Colossians 3:15-17 offers the same results by being “filled” with the Word, the Bible. I can read it. Study it. Meditate on it. Memorize it. The third passage, Galatians 5:16-17, advises us to “live” by the Spirit. The Greek word here is peripateo, which literally means “to walk”. As babies, we learn to walk a step at a time. Learning to walk in faith is the same until it becomes second nature to our new nature. We can trust God who knows what’s around the corner and down the road. We trust Him for the outcome. Psalm 119:105 says, “Your word is a lamp for my feet and a light for my path.”

Let the Holy Spirit fill and control you. Spend time in the Bible and learn. Yield your will to His. Trust Him with your baby steps. Learn to walk in the Spirit. Enjoy the peace and fulfillment The Lord has for you in your life.

Be a disciple who makes disciples!
