DEVOTIONAL | Acts 13
Key Verse | Acts 13:38-39
Let it be known to you therefore, brothers, that through this man [Jesus] forgiveness of sins is proclaimed to you, and by him everyone who believes is free from everything from which you could not be freed by the law of Moses.
This is one of my favorite chapters in the Bible. I grew up in a church that seemed like a modern version of ancient Judaism with lots of rules and regulations you had to follow if you wanted to get to heaven. That church added things to the good news. Like melting ice in a Coke on a hot day, it dilutes the real thing. Now I know I am saved by grace through faith. I trust alone in Jesus alone. Adding anything to His death and resurrection is like saying Jesus' death and resurrection is good but insufficient to provide salvation. Chapter 13 of Acts is where Paul becomes the primary apostle as he reaches out "a light to the Gentiles," planting churches around the Roman Empire. Those "appointed to eternal life" (chosen by God) believed and were saved "rejoicing and glorifying the word of the Lord." Even Gentiles who believed have all our sins forgiven. We are justified (declared not guilty.) The Holy Spirit comes to live in us, sealing us in Christ forever. We are guaranteed eternal life. Could anything be better? No. What a great salvation! The word gospel means good news. When you think about the gospel, it’s really GREAT NEWS!
